The Deal with Cauil
Cauil and I bantered words philospphically back and forth. About faction, about right and worng and where Max and my ambush actions fell in that. And what the Empire really does and what Cauil believes is right.
Cauil truly believes what he is doing is the right thing for the "greater good". And yes... he is a man of his word. He never "gave his word" on anything at that temple... just... alowed us to believe falseness without correcting it.
I am... I was... I don't think I was very good at this banter. I felt I was failing at convincing him to let Maxell go. Well... I had to resort to my last option. His life for Maxell's Cauil can't continuue to serve the greater good if he were dead.
Then it was a challenge of trust and the keeping of words. I was taking a big risk. He agreed stay in the clone centre if I sent everyone away. It was a risk. I was buffed and he wounded. but he still way way outskilled me.I asked everyone to head out about 500m and set up perimeter camps. They were leary... but did. And I returned to show my good faith on my word. Then I offered the life for a life. He was very reluctant. I was worried he would run... but that would wound sice honour. He agreed to a life for a life... under certain circumstances.
-I let him go free... with no further harm.
-He let's Max go free and will not attack any of us involved in today's ambush (will classify everything)
-I vow that the temple and its people will not overtly act against the Empire
I guess it works. I reached to Maxell... he was so... feral... it was helping him survive the shock treatment... but... gods... wild, like I have been. I reached deep to touch his spirit... to let him know I was coming for him... to free him. I was worried a moment... then... *relief* he reached back.
I called Avios and Ebe back and asked the others to make sure the port was secure on our return. Avios and the doctor were to be ready for us in the starport... I was not sure what health state I was bringing Maxell back in. Ebe, I wanted her to be the ranger she was and keep track of me and Cauil on the way to Maxell and to secure our back trail on the way back to the starport.
Now to trust Cauil keeps his word and releases Maxell.
